In cold weather, it's important to look after your string.
Avoid storing your racket in a cold car or locker. Cold string becomes less elastic and is therefore more likely to snap when you start playing, particularly during powerful shots or after a mishit.
Think of Blu Tack. When it's cold it snaps easily, but once warmed it stretches much more without breaking. Racket strings behave in a similar ray. Just as warming helps reduce the risk of muscle injuries, allowing your string to warm up can reduce the chance of premature breakage.
Whenever possible, keep your racket indoors at home and spend a few minutes warming up before playing at full intensity.
Many players gently warm the strings by rubbing them with their hands before play.
Keep your racket in its cover whenever possible, especially during colder weather.
It is advisable to store your racket at home and have a gentle warm up game before diving in.
Use the racket cover if you have one.
During the winter months, each restrung racket is supplied with a complimentary cold weather string care leaflet.
